Hey everyone!
Well, much time before I start working with video, 3D, art direction or even drawing, one thing I really liked were de comics. Today I realize how important they are in my work, because they are present when you have to create a carachter (concept), develop a storyboard and in the art direction of a scene (the cutting, perspective, colors etc…). But, the propouse here is not to give a lesson of comics (you can find really goos books for that), but yes to wake the curiosity of who still does no know, or knows just a little, comics for me is an essencial subject for who wants o work with cinema, motion, design and advertisement . So, follow below a list of some comics and artists from comics that were great references for me:
ARTISTAS:
Alex Ross: North american comics painter, his differential is the photographic realism on illustrations
Moebius: His real name is Jean Giraud, and he is one of the most respected illustrators from Europe.
Alan Moore: Comics british artist, creator of the great Watchman, V for Vendetta and Constantine!
Frank Frazetta: North american scientific ficcion and fantasy illustrator, not only for comics, but also for posters, CD covers and etc.
Simon Bisley: Also british, but with a different style, based on rock and grafitti.
Frank Miller: North american father of Demolitor, Sin City and 300. Big attention to the high level of contrast.
Todd Mcfarlane: Spawn creator
Greg Capullo: Worked together with Mcfarlane to create Spawn. Also been in Marvel and in 2011 signed the creation of a new Batman with DC comics.
Neil Gaiman: English, creator of Coraline comics!
Robert Crumb: Artist, illustrador and musician, known by his really particular and satiric draws.
Mark Millar: Scotish, created Wanted and Kick-Ass and adapted it for movies.
