Loon – Internet for everybody through Baloons

Staff Picks / posted by in 29 Jul of 2013

A child can reach incredible and exotic conclusions that are unthinkable by an adult. Maybe because she does not have the same notion of the life we have – a child’s mind does not sees barriers, difficulties or problems.

Google’s project Loon seems to have been thought by a child. Someone asked: “The internet has not come quickly and cheaply to all locations of the world.. How can we help? “And the child replied:” I’d put balloons with routers (notice children know what routers are) around the world! ”

Anyone would respond: “Ok, child, no go to play with your unicorns..” Because that seems crazy.

But it’s th absurd that take us to another level. Who believes it can make it higher.

The Loon project has a dose of absurdity involved with ingenuity and daring: interconnected networks of Balloons in the stratosphere (20 km above sea level, on top of any plane route), where the sign of the Internet goes from balloon to balloon to reach the special antennas installed in the houses. Wandering in the winds, the balloons can also be controlled by a device powered sunlight, so they have control of the signal range.

Still looks absurd? Take a look at the video:

Joining an idea of a clueless child to interdisciplinary studies to promote a social good.

“But after all, was a child who thought of it?”

Sure. A child who lives inside someone who can still believe in his dreams.
